My review of Corfu
Welcome to the Island of Corfu, one of the Ionian islands to the west of mainland Greece.
Corfu Town is the capital of Corfu (Kerkyra in Greek). It is definitely one of greece's 'cooler' towns where the rich and famous go to see and be seen. However, tourists will find much within limited budgets too as Corfu town caters for everyone.
AGIOS MANTHAIOS is a mountainous village sorrounded by forests 25 kilometres south-west of Corfu Town. There are two great beaches a few kilometres from town.
GOUVIA and DASSIA are resorts to the noth of Corfu Town
Acharavi beach is a 3km sandy beach. Sidari has fine dark sand, great for castle building. St Stefanos beach has all the facilities needed for a great beach holiday ideal for families with kids.
Glyfada is great for watersports and Mytriotisa is one of the most popular nudist beaches in Europe.
According to greek mythology the God of the Sea, Poseidon, fell in love with a water nymph named Korkira who he brought to the island and he named it after her. Hellenic settlers have been on the island since about 850 bc and Corfu grew to become an important commercial centre and a strong naval power.
There is plenty of Accommodation on Corfu, wether you are looking for cheap hotels , penions in out of the way places or five star luxury amongst the glitz of Corfu Town.
Corfu Town is mostly 17th Century classical rich merchant's houses which gives the town an elegant facade.
Corfu is blessed with a wonderful climate comprising mild winters and relatively cool summers compared to mainland Greece.
Corfu island has its own airport, sited about 3 km south from the island’s capital.
Most budget airlines in europe seem to have at least one flight to corfu per week.
Corfu is blessed with a wonderful climate comprising mild winters and relatively cool summers compared to mainland Greece.
