What causes warts?

Warts are caused by a viral infection (the human papillomavirus ) and can appear on any part of the body. Warts can be quite painfull or painless, depending on the individual wart.

Because they are caused by a virus, warts can and will spread if left untreated. Warts can be passed to another person through skin contact.
Warts on the soles of feet are known as plantar warts (or planter warts).

Sadly it is possible to get warts from using towels or other objects that were used by a person who has warts. Genital warts can be embarassing and painful and need to be treated to avoid passing the infection to others.

Anti wart creams can be obtained from a chemist. The process of removing warts often takes many weeks of daily cream application.

A faster way of removing planter warts is to freeze them off with liquid nitrogen. This freezing process (cryotherapy) is carried out by a doctor and is often quite painful but it does an instant result.

Sometimes warts disappear on their own.

Wart removal remedies have been around for a long time an d most are useless. However those that stop the air from getting to the wart do seem to be partially effective.
