Plastic Surgery - the proceedures

Tummy Tucks

Tummy Tucks are proceedures where fat is removed from the tummy area. The technical term for a tummy tuck is abdominoplasty, is an operation to alter the appearance of the stomach. There is always a scar after a tummy tuck, usually at the level of the bikini line where there is a natural crease in the skin.

Most tummy tucks are usually now ignored in favour of the less invasive Lipsuction plastic surgery technique. This is done by injecting a solution to liquefy the fat which is then removed via suction. This liposuction proceedure only requires a small hole to be made in the skin to introduce the suction nozzle, thereby radically reducing the chances of visible scarring. Lipsuction generally costs between $5,000 (£2,500) and $10,000 (£5,000) for the treatment.

Face Lifts

A face lift is the term for proceedures which remove excess fat, tighten underlying facial muscles, and redrape the skin to alter the facial appearance.

Botox

Botox receives lots of media attention. This is the injection of Botulinum Toxin Type A into muscles in the face to temporarily numb them. The desired effect is a loss of wrinkles for a few weeks.

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is a general term used to describe a range of surgical procedures which re-shape the nasal area.

Ear Correction

While the name begs the question of what a correct ear should look like, this proceedure is often about pinning back ears that stand out perpendicular to the face.

Eyebag Removal

When people have sagging skin below the eyes, its removal can have a big effect on the look of the face.
