Start with a ripe pumpkin that is free of blemishes and bruising. This is important becasue a bruised pumpkin will begin to rot quickly.
Try to get a plastic "pumpkin carving" knife which are available in the run up to halloween. They are blunt, serrated and stunningly effective pumpkin carving tools. Otherwise you will need a long thin bladed knife.
Your first cut is to remove the lid by cutting an angled hole. The angle stops the lid falling into the body of the pumpkin.

Use alarge spoon, lade or ice cream scoop to remove all the seeds and messy gunk from the inside of the pumpkin, leaving thick fleshy walls.
Now print out one of our free design templates or draw your own scarry pumpkin face on a piece of paper. Tape the design you choose tothe side of your pumpkin where you want the face to be. Using a skewer or large nail, punch the outline of the design through onto the surface of the pumpkin.
Now remove the paper and use the knife to join the dots to cut out your pumpkin design.
Finally place a tea light candle in the cavity and watch your spooky pumpkin face come alive..
