Zakynthos is the third largest of the Ionian Islands. The capital city was rebuilt from scratch following a terrifying earthquake in 1953 that flattened it.

Beaches on Zakynthos

Zakynthos has plenty of good beaches. Shipwreck beach (originally called Navagio beach) is stunning and only accessible by boats, as there is no road down the cliffs.

Agios Nikolaos in the south is a great beach for watersports, but Tsilivi Beach & Planos Beach close to Zak town are a little crowded.

Shipwreck beach

Yes I agree about Shipwreck beach. If you come to Zante you really shouldn't miss a day at this beach. The water is so clear, so bring your goggles and snorkel.

We want to go to Zante

Can anyone recommend a 4 star hotel near a beach suitable for people who like authentic greek culture as well as the beaches, but don't want to be kept up till 4 in the morning by discos blaring out thumping basslines and europop? Thanks
