Greek Islands: Sikinos - small is beautiful.
The island of Sikinos has a resident population of under 300 people. The little island of Sikinos lies between Ios and Folegandros islands.
Alopronia is the harbour and a pretty one too. Other than that there is one road across the island to the capital of Sikinos which comprses the twin villages of Hora and Kastro. In the latter you will find Klamatéria and To Stéki both of which serve good food.
There are just five beaches on this bare rocky island which was formerly renown for its vinyards. Alopronia beach is easy to walk to an has good sand and bathing.
There are no attractive boutiques or fiver-star sauna complexes here and the easiest way to get to some of the beaches on Sikinos is to swim to them.
However Sikinos island offers you the very real opportunity to walk through bronze tnted desert-like undefined moonscapes and sit in silence. This could be your ultimate vacation spot if you need to unwind because Sikinos offers stillness and tranquility in bucketfuls.
For these reasons, Sikinos has been accurately described as an antidote to tourism.
Reviews of Sikinos
Book in advance
Sikinos is tiny with only a few places to stay so do book in advance, particularly in high season.
