Fade Out

Fade Out by Patrick Tilley is a near future science fiction book.

In this novel alien craft decend in an H.G.Wells style but the plot sets itself apart from usual fare in that we are never introduced to their occupants. Instead we focus on the effects of a complete loss of power to the entire planet.

No planes, batteries, light heat or computers ever again.

What begins as a complication of the visitors arrival eclipses the aliens themselves as mankind's biggest problem to be confronted.

The style is highly competent and the philisophical investigations are worth investigating.

Whether you are a fan of sci-fi books or not, you will enjoy this thought-provoking read.

There is a discernable environmentalist subtext to this novel which is as timely today as it was when Tilley first wrote the book. His other novels Mission (1981), Xan (1986) and Star Wartz (1995) are not in the same style as Fade Out
