Top Trumps
Top Trumps have been around for more than 30 years but are still a great gift for a young boy. For around £2.50 you get a packet of cards that get played by two boys (or boys and girls) the object being to win all the top trump cards.
Each card has a series of facts (e.g. for Top Trump Cars there are facts about BHP Engine Capacity, top speed and so on) and by comparing a chosen fact the holder of the winning card takes the losing card into their deck. As you see, top trumps is a simple game combining luck and judgement and it allows children to develop negotiation and interactional skills through play.
They also learn facts about the world around them and it is this that holds the childs fascination with these simple but popular gifts.
