Board games

Amazon have lots of great board games for kids.

The wonderful thing about board games is that they actually teach kids quite a lot about decision making and social interaction.

Monopoly, for example is an object lesson in the power of money and the morals associated with wealth and poverty.

Risk teaches some basic geography alongside strategic planning.

Trivial Pursuit is a lesson in how having a wide range of interests can be more beneficial in life than just focusing on one thing alone.

These are just a few ideas. There are many hundreds of excellent board games and aside from the "Noel Edmonds Deal or no Deal game" (which teaches absolutely nothing that could benefit anybody) they all will add to a child's unverstanding of the world around him.
