Equalizing your ear pressure for Diving
Simply put, if you don't equalize properly, you risk an ear injury.
Fortunately blowing gently against a pinched nose or swallowing while pinching your nose is usually all that is required to equalise a squeeze while decending or a reverse squeeze when surfacing.
You really must not wait until you feel discomfort before equalizing your ears. It should be done almost continually while decending for a scuba dive.
If you find you cannot equalise, then de not start blowing harder. Simply stop your decent, come up a couple of feet and try again.
If you cannot equalise it is essential that you abort the dive. Losing one
dive is a lot less upsetting (and less painful) than losing your hearing.
