This guide to archaeology and its history, techniques and theories is noteable for the excellent explanation of the discovery and excavation of sites. It is less complex than the Renfrew and Bahn book, but still manages to cover lots of ground in enough detail for most people.

A lecturer at Newcastle University, Kevin Greene wrote this as a general introduction to Archaeology and his writing is a model of clarity. He also provides excellent references for further study. This book truly deserves a five star rating.
