Learn How to Paint like the Old Masters

Old Master's palette

There were far fewer colours available during the rennaisence and the masters worked with a restricted palette. Restricting our palettes today forces us to find the same combinations and tonal touch that the masters achieved.

Here is a proposed palette which should cover a similar range to painters from the 15th to 18th century.

yellow ochre Yellow Ochre
Burnt Sienna Burnt Sienna
Venetian Red Venetian Red
Terre Verte Terre Verte
Cerulean Blue
Cerulean Blue
Ultramarine Blue Ultramarine Blue
Cobalt Green Cobalt Green
Ivory Black Ivory Black
Flake White Flake White

Windsor and Newton provide all of these colours as oil paints. I find this palette reminds me most of the work of Rubens.
