How to Listen
Hearing and Listening are not the same. Anyone can hear a noise, but
listening means understanding the words you hear. If you listen in class
you will take in the information and you will be a brilliant student.
Good
listening means paying attention.
- Don't doodle on your pad
- Don't gaze out of the window
- Don't look at your classmates
- Don't daydream
- Ignore distractions if at all possible.
I know that sounds difficult and boring,
but this is really important.
Your attitude is probably more important than your 'intelligence'.
If you make a conscious choice to find the topic useful and interesting,
you will be able to learn more of it. if you walk into
the classroom thinking "I will listen and I will understand"
then you usually will.
On the other hand, If you walk into the class with a bad attitude you
won't listen, you won't learn and you will not succeed. Don't say goodbye
to a nice easy future with a great job, nice house lovely holidays and
money to spend on the fun things that grown ups can do. It is up to you!
If you have been listening you should pretty much always know:
- What the main point is
- Roughly what teacher is going to say next
Ask yourself if you can answer those questions at least once during a
lesson. if you cannot answer these questions you probably haven't been
listening.
